Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who chooses the physical therapy clinic that I go to?
A: Ultimately, it is YOUR decision to choose where you would like to go for your treatment. Most often, your referring physician will recommend a physical therapy clinic. We recommend SOUTHSHORE (hint-hint; wink-wink). It is best to check with your insurance company to make sure that we are an “In-Network” provider. If you would like to know if Southshore Physical Therapy is in your insurance company’s network, please call Jennifer at 504.885.8969.

Q: Why choose SOUTHSHORE PHYSICAL THERAPY?
A: Helloooo?! You GET BETTER and HAVE FUN doing so. No other physical therapy clinic will promise you that. Come see for yourself.

Q: What do I need to bring for my first visit?
A: Yourself, your prescription from your doctor (unless his or her office has faxed it to us prior to your arrival), identification card or driver’s license, and your insurance cards. You may bring operative reports, MRI or x-ray reports, but they are not required. If you are utilizing any type of brace, splint, or crutches, they should come with you.

Q: Do I need to see a referring physician?
A: Yes and no. You need a referral from your physician to begin formal physical therapy treatment; however, if you have not seen or do not have an orthopedic physician we can perform a screening evaluation and refer/direct you to the proper medical professional.

Q: How long does a typical physical therapy treatment last?
A: A typical treatment session lasts from 45-60 minutes. After your initial evaluation, your therapist will be able to more accurately assess what the duration of each treatment will be.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Comfortable, loose-fitting attire is the norm. If you are being evaluated for a spinal or shoulder problem, the therapist can provide you with a gown (to expose these areas for initial assessment and treatment); however, for lower extremity problems, shorts are fine. You are welcome to change at our facility if necessary.

Q: What are your appointment times and whom do I contact?
A: Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am until 6:00pm. We accept appointments Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 10:30am (close from 12:00 noon until 1:00pm for lunch) and between 1:00pm and 4:30pm. If you need to schedule an appointment, or have any questions, please contact our Jen in our front office at 504.885.8969.

Q: Will my insurance cover physical therapy?
A: Physical therapy benefits differ depending upon your personal insurance benefits. When scheduling an appointment, the front office will conduct an insurance verification for you prior to your first visit. Therefore, you will be informed of you insurance benefits/coverage prior to your evaluation/treatment. Please see our Insurance link for more info.

Q: Whom do I contact with questions regarding my bill?

A: All billing questions can be addressed by calling Jessica in our Billing Office at 504.885.8969.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?

A: We accept cash, personal checks, and, after popular demand, we now accept credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, and Discover)!
